God has blessed our parish with another vocation to the Sacred Priesthood. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Cardinal Dolan ordained four men, three for the Archdiocese of New York and one for the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal.
One of those chosen men is Michael Coleman. Fr. Coleman was raised in our parish. He attended our school in Pre-K class then became a student in our PREP Program.
Fr. Coleman has joined the other priests from our parish: Frs. Ronald, SDS, (the Salvatorians), David Riley, John McIvor, John Vigilianti, Andrew Carrozza, Joseph Fallon, and Brian Taylor.
Fr. Coleman’s First Solemn Mass will be Sunday afternoon at 1:30 PM here, with a reception down in Toner Hall. The Parish is invited to attend the Mass and reception to congratulate and thank Fr. Coleman and to receive his first priestly blessing. There is an indulgence gained by receiving a first priestly blessing and kissing the newly anointed hands of a priest. Our parish will present Father a parish gift along with other societies’ gifts as well.
I would also like to thank and congratulate Father’s grandmother, his parents, his sisters and family for fostering and encouraging his vocation. A special grace is given to the parents who offer their son to the Church. Tu es sacerdos in æternam (You are a priest forever!)
This weekend is Memorial Day Weekend. Memorial Day is a national holiday whereby we remember all our brothers and sisters who were killed during the wars, in which America was involved. They offered their lives for our country and our freedoms. Something we should never take for granted or forget; the sacrifices they offered and their families.
Monday at 10:15 AM in town will be the Memorial Day Parade with ceremonies at Braunsdorf Park. If you are in town, you should try to attend and bring the children. They need to be taught that patriotism is a virtue and that we can never pay back what we owe to our country.
Ascension Thursday - Holyday of Obligation
This Thursday, May 29th is the Solemnity of the Ascension, 40 days after Easter, and the beginning of the Novena for Pentecost. It celebrates the mystery of our Lord leaving earth and returning to His Father, where He sits at His right hand and is waiting to come again to earth at the end of this world. It is a Holyday of Obligation; all Catholics are obliged to attend Mass that day. The schedule of the Masses is listed in the bulletin.
The parish is looking for a college-age student who needs a part time job here at the parish. Light maintenance, organizing storage areas and cleaning. If interested, please call Fr. Raaser.
