Our parish has been incorporated in the State of New York since 1908. Every parish in the Archdiocese is its own legal corporation controlled by the Cardinal Archbishiop of New York rather than a board of directors. When a parish incorporates, it adds a measure of legal protection for its own parishioners. Parishioners are not liable for the inappropriate actions of another parishioner.
The Archbishop is the president of the corporation, the Vicar General is the treasurer and the pastor is the secretary. Every parish needs two trustees, who are nominated by the pastor and appointed by the Cardinal-Archbishop and Vicar General. The role of the trustee is to accept and sign the financial statement of the parish as well as being trusted advisors to the pastor.
I have been blessed these past 7 years to have Brian Freer and Ken Cully as the parish trustees. I am so grateful to the both of them. They were invaluable to me with their counsel and knowledge of our parish. Both these gentlemen helped me greatly when I first arrived to St. Margaret.
There is a term limit in the office of trustees. It is now time to nominate two new trustees. I have asked Mrs. Evelyn Beckerle and Dr. Carolyn Leary to be the new trustees. Both these ladies are long time parishioners, well respected and very competent. I thank them for their willing service to our parish. Their nomination has been accepted as of 22 August 2022.
Eagle Scout
Our parish congratulates Danny Hooker, who became an Eagle Scout on Saturday, August 20. Danny is a fine young man, from a wonderful family. Danny is an altar server here at the Parish, and attends Pearl River High School. His project was to enhance the Sisters of Life Motherhouse in Airmont. Danny built two picnic tables and installed a large brick patio for the Sisters.
Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in Boy Scouts. An Eagle Scout has always carried with it a special significance and prestige. The award is a performance-based achievement whose standards have been well maintained over the years. Not every boy who joins the Boy Scouts earns the Eagle Scout rank. Becoming an Eagle Scout is no small feat. Since its inception in 1911, only four percent of Scouts have earned this rank.
Congratulations Danny and your family, we your parish family are very proud of you.
Let the Tears Flow
It is that time of the year when we say farewell, and good luck to our young parishioners who are leaving for college. They say it is the longest and quietest ride home after leaving your child at college. It is a necessary rite of passage. After all this is the day, which parents were planning for since their son or daughter was born. The main “job” of parents, as the purpose of a school, is the day when they leave and venture out on their own. Wait until you get their first tuition bill, then the tears will really flow!
So, my young friends, good luck this year as you begin college, remain true to the values and principles you were taught by your Church and your parents, always wonder, and search for the truth, who is Christ. Go to Mass, receive the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist and go to confession.
